Dear Sir Walter,
I hope you will not mind if I write a personal note to you. 
About ten days ago I was asked on the telephone to see the Archbishop of Westminster, Archbishop Hinsley. I visited him the following evening. He had asked me personally to see him to have a personal talk apart from the other members of the recent deputation (about which I have already given a report to you).
As he had requested me I had sent to the Archbishop the debates at the T.U. Congresses at Margate & Plymouth &c & also the official Labour publications on the Spanish situation, and pointed out the vote against Communist affiliation. 
He said he had read the literature I had sent to him and was interested. He expressed a desire to meet you, and wanted to know if a meeting could be arranged. I said it might be difficult for me to do so & that nothing could be done officially. He said he understood that I said that what he would like would be to meet you privately and unofficially for a private informal talk. 
I said that I would do my best and that I would approach you with his request. I had hoped to speak to you personally on this but as you have been away I have not been able to do so. 
Do you think you could meet the Archbishop personally and privately? He seemed anxious to meet you
