SPAIN'S NEW GENERATION MUST BE SAVED
A Million Women and Children's Lives in Danger !
The horrors of the SPANISH WAR have driven over 1,000,000 women and children from their homes. Terrorised by the bombing of open towns and villages, they have poured into Catalonia and the rest of Eastern Spain.
The people of these areas, themselves suffering great privation, have given all they had to help their fellow-countrymen; the Government and its relief organisations are doing all that is humanly possible; but the problem is too great.
FAMINE!
Babies are dying because there is no milk to feed them. Mothers are seeing their children grow pale and ill through lack of food and are helpless to stop it. They must stand in a queue for five hours to get one piece of bread.
There is a drastic shortage of medical supplies. Soap is practically unobtainable. There are not nearly enough blankets to go round.
PESTILENCE!
There is grave danger of epidemics unless serums and preventive medicines are rushed out, state the two London doctors who went to Catalonia to investigate conditions on behalf of the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief. They report numerous cases like that of the hospital, housing 180 patients, which had no milk for eight days.
