              FIGHTING OUR BATTLE
FOR two and a half years the Spanish people have been defending their elected Government against a military rebellion begun and
run by Mussolini and Hitler.
Desperately short of arms and food, they have made up for mere weight of metal by their heroic spirit.
Britain and other democratic countries have forbidden the sending of arms to democratic Spain in the name of "Non-Intervention" But Italy and Germany have openly sent armies, aeroplanes and "advisers" to General Franco, and have publicly boasted of breaking "Non-Intervention."
Without their backing, Franco 's rebellion would never have been started. If their intervention were stopped now, it would be speedily crushed and peace restored to Spain. But so long as war goes on, it is a terrible threat to OUR safety.
Hitler and Mussolini have occupied and built naval and air bases in Spain which threaten the vital trade routes of the British Commonwealth and endanger Britain's food supply.
In fighting Hitler and Mussolini to free their own land, the Spanish people are also fighting for OUR safety.
"TOKEN" AND REALITY
The Spanish Government has of its own free will withdrawn the few thousand foreign volunteers who were helping to defend Democracy.
Mussolini has taken out ten thousand wounded and war-weary conscripts as a "token," so as to give Mr. Chamberlain an excuse for recognising his conquest of Abyssinia and handing him the advantages of the Anglo-Italian Agreement.
But over 50,000 Italians are still fighting for Franco, and a large part of Mussolini's Air Force is busy bombing loyal cities, and blowing women and children to bits. Hitler's technical experts show no signs of leaving, but are speeding up Spain's iron-ore production for Hitler's arms factories.
OUR DANGER
If Franco were to win — and the attitude of our "National" Government is helping him in every way short of actually sending troops and arms — Spain would be in the hands of the dictators, who have openly proclaimed their aims of dominating Europe and controlling the Mediterranean.
And the greatest weapon in Franco's hands to-day is STARVATION.
