The French Government grants Half a Million Francs for sending a Sport
Delegation to the Peoples' Olympiad at Barcelona
P.O. Barcelona, 18th June.       In view of the international importance which the Peoples' Olympiad in Barcelona has acquired to-day, the Government of the French Peoples' Front has granted the sum of half a million francs for the participation of a strong French delegation in the Peoples' Olympiad at Barcelona.       This decision of the French Government's has aroused the greatest enthusiasm among all athletes.     The endeavours of numerous French organisations to obtain official French participation in the Peoples' Olympiad 
at Barcelona have met with complete success.       The organising committee 
of the Peoples' Olympiad at Barcelona has sent all sports' associations and similar orgaisations concerned its hearty congratulations on this fine result.
In Spain this news has been received with great pleasure.       The movement for the Peoples' Olympiad which has already taken on absolutely phantastic proportions in Spain has at the same time spread across the borders of this country in a way that no one could have expected.       With this decision of the French government, with France's official participation in the Peoples' Olympiad at Barcelona, it has become a world event.      To-day the Peoples' Olympiad at Barcelona is the greatest international sport institution, 
incorporating the true Olympic spirit.
The democatic countries of Europe have a mission to fulfil:   the defence of human freedom, culture and progress.       All adherents of these ideals should miss no opportunity of carrying out their mission.       The Peoples' Olympiad in Barcelona is such an opportunity.       France has set an example to the democratic countries.       If only those countries that call them seIves democratic would follow this example....
The Press on the Decision of the French Government.
P.O. Barcelona, 18th June. "Paris Soir" (16/6/'36) deals at length with the participation of France in the Peoples' Olympiad at Barcelona. After
remarking that the next few days must bring a decision about participating 
in the Berlin games also, the journal draws particular attention to the following:      While all athletes without exception, to whatever association 
they belong, may participate in the Peoples' Olympiad at Barcelona,
the greatest French workers' sports organisation, the FSGT, would be excluded 
from the Berlin games. A French delegation with a subvention of 500,000 francs is to take part in the Peoples' Olympiad at Barcelona.
On the first page of "L'Auto" is a report on the question of credits for Barcelona and for Berlin.      After a credit of 1,890,000 was at first provided for participation in the Berlin games, this has now been reduced to
