Sir Walter Citrine, T.U.C. General Council, Transport House, SW1.
Dear Sir Walter,
In reply to your letter of the 22nd inst we are giving you all the facts we know regarding the Barcelona Olympiad.
We had heard, through our contacts in the Berlin Games protest campaign, that a rival or opposition Olympiad was being discussed. It was not until recently however that we knew anything definite.
As far as we know the organisation was first mooted by the Catalan Sports Association, and it quickly received full support from the Catalan Government.
The Olympiad is definitely being organised from Barcelona; that is apparent from the manner in which correspondence is coming to us here. The Socialist Workers' Sports International although not taking official part itself, the Catalan Sports Association being outside S.A.S.I., has given its constituents freedom to participate, which many of them are doing.
Finance is forthcoming to support the Olympiad from the Catalan Government, the Spanish Government and the City of Barcelona.
Owing to the grant from the Spanish Government we shall be able to enlarge our team from this country, as a grant is to be sent over in the form of travel tickets.
