198. SPAIN:
Messrs. Attlee and Greenwood reported upon an interview they had had with the Prime Minister on the previous day, when information was imparted regarding the situation following the Rome conversations, and opportunity was taken to renew representations upon the opening of the French Frontier and full facilities being given to the Spanish Government to secure arms.
Mr. Dallas reported that at the International Sub-Committee of the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party held on the previous day, it had been agreed to recommend that the three Chairmen (Mr. Attlee, Chairman of the Parliamentary Party, Mr. Dallas, Chairman of the National Executive Committee, and Mr. Hallsworth, Chairman of the Trades Union Congress) should forthwith ask the Prime Minister to receive them as a deputation and demand in the interests of our own security, that the fall of Barcelona should be prevented by taking any steps that may be necessary to ensure that the frontier should be opened for the passage of arms to the Republican Government.
After discussion, it was
RESOLVED: "That an approach should be made immediately to the Prime Minister to receive the proposed deputation that day."
