- DOUBLE FILM PREMIERE FOR SPANISH RELIEF -
Dear Friend,
We have pleasure in bringing to your notice an extremely interesting double film premiere which is to be given at the ST. PANCRAS TOWN HALL, on FRIDAY, 7th JULY, at 7.30 p.m., under the auspices of the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief. All proceeds from the collection will go towards the emigration of "danger-list" Spanish refugees from the French concentration camps to Mexico.
The two films, which will subsequently be used by Spanish Relief organisations all over the country as part of their campaign for funds, are entitled "Passport to Life" and "A People is Waiting."
"Passport to Life" is a graphic record of the sailing of the first Spanish Refugee Ship, the s.s. SINAIA, to Mexico from the French Mediterranean port of Sete on 24th May. Here you will see Spanish Republican refugees reunited with their wives and families after months of hardship and weary exile in the concentration camps, setting out with new hope and strength to a new life in the hospitable Spanish-speaking republic across the Atlantic.
"A People is Waiting" is one of the most interesting and moving films ever taken. A French cameraman, defying the ban on photography in the camps, smuggled his camera into forbidden places, securing a thrilling record of the great exodus from Catalonia, the concentration camps, the desolation of Argeles and the suffering and misery of thousands of Spain's noblest men and women.
Being an impartial record, this film also shows the efforts being made by organisations in many countries to alleviate the hardships of life, especially for the women and children in exile.
Taken together, the two films show both the problem and its possible solution. As a means of keeping up the interest of the British public in Spanish Relief we feel sure they will be a triumphant success.
Many prominent supporters of Spanish Relief will be present at the London premiere. We hope to have the pleasure of your company also. Help us to make this double premiere a great occasion by filling in the enclosed form and sending it by return to the office of the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief, 30 Eccleston Street, S.W.1.
Yours sincerely,
NATIONAL JOINT COMMITTEE FOR SPANISH RELIEF.
