BARON FREE
The following telegram was received in New York on Friday, November 12th:
IT GIVES ME GREAT PLEASURE TO INFORM YOU SPANISH GOVERNMENT CABLES ME SAM BARON IS AT LIBERTY - FERNANDO DE LOS RIOS
Very important! FRANCISCO LARGO CABALLERO SPEAKS !!
SPANISH LABOR NEWS dedicates this complete issue to the very important address which was delivered by Francisco Largo Caballero in Madrid, on Sunday, October 17th. Although it will not be the policy of this bulletin to devote future issues to any one political tendency, or to any one individual, it is felt that the importance of this first public statement of the former Prime Minister since his resignation as head of the government last May is sufficient to warrant this one exception.
The address was delivered in the largest auditorium in Madrid, the Pardinas Theatre, and was relayed by loud speakers to three other large theatres. All seats had been sold for all four theatres three days before the meeting. Official representatives came from workers' organizations in all parts of Loyalist Spain. The speech has been translated from the stenographic version published in the Correspondencia de Valencia. This is the first time it has been made available to American readers in complete form except for the frequent passages where the type had been smashed by order of the censor. It will be noted that this censorship is political, not military.
On several occasions, Largo Caballero refers to future speeches which he intends to give and in which he will discuss other problems. SPANISH LABOR NEWS has been informed by an official representative of the Spanish government, only recently arrived in New York from Spain, that the government prevented Caballero's future appearances "in order to avoid disturbances." It therefore appears likely that the speech here reproduced will be the last the Spanish leader will make for some time to come.

Workers! Let my first words be of greeting to all the fighters who are struggling in Spain against Fascism and for the independence of our country, and also of commemoration for all those who have fallen, fighting for the same cause. This greeting and this commemoration we must all dedicate to those men free from prejudice and human pettiness who are fighting, as I have said, for our independence.
THE ELECTORAL CAMPAIGN OF 1933
It has been a long time since I have addressed myself in public meetings, to the working class. I recall, incidentally, that the last propaganda campaign I carried on was the electoral campaign which contributed much to the triumph of the left forces in the face of fascism which was already taking shape in our country. I well recall that in that campaign there were three or four principal questions with which I dealt: first, amnesty for all those men who were in the prisons as a result of the events of October; second, an appeal to the women of Spain for their cooperation in the triumph of the left forces; third, an appeal to the comrades of the CNT that on that occasion they put aside certain attitudes which they had maintained until then and cooperate in the triumph; and fourth, that the voters consider the political programs and not the individual candidates in spite of the fact that there were many undesirable individuals among the candidates.
