REPORT OF JOINT MEETING OF I.F.T.U. EXECUTIVE AND L.S.I. BUREAU ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17th, 1937, AT 3 PM, IN PARIS.

For the I.F.T.U:: Citrine, Mertens, Kupers, Jouhaux, Tayerle, Jacobsen, Schevenels, Stolz.
For the L.S.I:   De Brouckère, Hilferding, Bracke, Abramovitch, Modigliani, Adler.
SCHEVENELS reported that the Spanish Socialist Party and the Spanish Trade Union Centre had indicated that the position in Spain was such as to preclude the possibility of their being represented at the meeting.
Schevenels recalled that at the meeting of officers of the two Internationals, held in Brussels, it was felt that it was not understood sufficiently in Spain what the two Internationals had done and were doing in the sphere of relief work, and it was agreed that a delegation should go to Spain.     It was therefore agreed, in conjunction with Adler, that Schevenels should accompany the next convoy of lorries containing food for Spain, and should try during his visit to make the relief work done by the two Internationals more widely known in Spain.     It was also agreed that he should discuss with the Spanish comrades the question of the establishment of a military hospital for the Madrid front.
Before leaving for Spain, he received a request by telegram from the Spanish National Centre asking for a Conference of all anti-Fascist organisations to consider the question of more effective aid for Spain. A similar letter was received by the L.S.I. from the Spanish Socialist Party.    Schevenels therefore undertook to discuss this matter also with the Spanish comrades.
He discussed the question of the proposed conference with Caballero and Pascual Tomás, who said that they felt the two Internationals were not doing as much as they might to assist the Spanish Government, either through the Non-Intervention Committee or through Geneva.     They therefore made a strong appeal for a world Conference, representative of all anti-Fascist organisations.     Schevenels pointed out that such a Conference would not only raise difficulties
