International Brigade Association.
Thank you for your enquiry of October 12th with which you forwarded a communication received from the International Brigade Association.    This association nowadays is under communist control and your Trades Council would therefore be out of order in spending time discussing correspondence from this source.
The event with which the communication you forwarded purports to deal is the decision of the French government to deport 150 persons to Algeria.    These persons are nearly all Spaniards and were therefore not members of the International Brigade.
As you know, France offered asylum to a large number of Spaniards some 12 years ago.     A proportion of these - about 180 - have been held by the French authorities to have abused this hospitality by forming clandestine communist organisations.     These persons were given the choice of being interned in Algeria or being sent to any country behind the Iron Curtain.     Less than 30 preferred the Iron Curtain and the remainder sailed from Marseilles three weeks ago.
