The sufferings of the people of Europe and occupied Soviet territory are indescribable. Only the complete destination of fascism can save them from further tortures and starvation.
There are men and women, however, whom we can help now: the men and women who fought in the International Brigades in Spain. They fought that the world might have been spared its present horrors. For four yours now 1500 of them have been in the hell holes of France, Spain and North Africa.
WHAT CAN BE DONE?
We are certain that if we had the support of the T.U.C. and more national organisations we could get our Government to take joint measures with the American Government for the release of our comrades.
The release of the 48 Brigaders from France and the Greek comrades from Spain proves this is possible. Intervention by some Government on their behalf with Vichy and Franco is all that is needed.
We therefore ask you to send a resolution to your National Executive containing the points in the enclosed leaflet. This will of necessity take times but the problem of relief is urgent, it is immediate. We must send it quickly.
In the French camps, where the conditions are most horrible, famine prevails. Comrades of ours are dying of starvation even as we read this. This is the latest report to reach us from the Unitarian Service Committee in Lisbon who have relief workers in France. It is possible for our Association to send relief through the Unitarian Service Committee. We are aiming at sending £2,500 this month.
We need your help! Send us a donation or take a collection among your members. Make a collection amongst your friends and in your place of work.
SAM WILD, President
JACK BRENT, Secretary.
P.S. Please distribute the enclosed leaflets to your members.
