Fate of Frank Ryan
Thanks for your letter of November 7th in which you state that you are receiving enquiries about the fate of Frank Ryan who was imprisoned in Spain and asking for any information available about this matter before putting it before your General Council.
Frank Ryan was the leader of the Irish Battalion of the International Brigade during the Spanish Civil War and was a Citizen of Eire. He was captured by Franco's forces some time during 1938, was tried and sentenced to 30 years imprisonment. During January, 1941, the Government of Eire reported that Frank Ryan had been released from the jail in which he had then spent 2½ years, and apparently nothing
