re INTERVIEW WITH ARCHBISOP OF WESTMINSTER.
I am attaching herewith for Sir Walter's perusal an alleged account of the interview with the Archbishop of Westminster, my own account of which I have confidentially previously put before him.
He will note there is a difference between this account and mine, especially at the end, where the view is stated that His Grace the Archbishop expressed care in the setting up of a Catholic Consultative Council. This report says that he thought the time was not opportune. My remembrance of the interview is that he cordially supported the idea, and wanted to find ways and means to make it representative, so as to make such a body acceptable to both the Catholic authorities and the Labour and Trade Union Movement. It was in regard to the idea of a Democratic Labour League about which he expressed a desire for careful consideration and delay before coming to a decision.
Sir Walter will note the Archbishop's views on Fascism as well as Communism.
