An enforced laze in bed, during the last three weeks, is my apology for not ackowledging your most interesting letter of the 10th. November. Most interesting, for your letter to me would have been exactly my letter to you, both as regards outlook and experience. There must be many voices crying in the wilderness which, as a choir, could be made resonent. I am most willing to do my bit.
As soon as I am well enough I shall be most pleased to arrange for a little pow-pow though I feel that this Committee must first be urged to greater efforts though they have given a good response during the past few months. The All-Yorkshire Committee which I set going is also proving an asset in this anti-fascist fight.
I have a few names, mostly on the London ground, who are similar-minded to ourselves and who would be influential once inertia was overcome. I had looked forward to a few months travelling - deferred for over a year owing to the call against Franco - but feel that I should be more content to continue one's little effort. One thing of which I am certain, is not to waste effort in a movement, such as a Catholic League, in which eclesiastical inhibitions are key-positioned. Full co-operation with a reservation of liberty of action would, after my experience, be essential. This morning, I have received a faithful account - given with no thought of propaganda - of Cabanellas's (a freemason) truculence with Goma in the sordid business of Mujica's expulsion from the diocese of Vittoria. The position is appaling so far as Catholic democracy is affected.
