              The Catholic Social Guild

The Guild promotes the study of social questions among Catholics, assists in applying Catholic principles to the solution of actual social problems, and trains men and women for active leadership in public life.
The Guild organizes and assists study circles, frequently in co-operation with other Catholic societies, for Social Science, Moral Philosophy, Economics, International Relations, etc., with special reference to the Papal Encyclicals.
The Guild arranges an annual "Week" or Summer School at Oxford, with shorter Schools elsewhere and hundreds of lectures throughout the year in various parts.
The Guild publishes and circulates pamphlets and textbooks dealing with social questions, and a monthly paper, The Christian Democrat (2d.).
The Guild arranges study courses for schools, tuition and examinations for adults, and deals with enquiries, from home and abroad, relating to social questions. The Guild takes no part in party politics.
The Guild is associated with THE CATHOLIC WORKERS' COLLEGE which takes adult wage-earners from mine or factory and gives them residential university training at Oxford to fit them to become leaders of Catholic Social Action. "Undoubtedly the first and immediate apostles of working men must themselves be working men." — Encyclical "Quadragesimo Anno."
The Guild gives its services freely. It is maintained by 3,000 individuals, study clubs, and other societies contributing (1936) £865. The Guild is struggling through grave financial difficulties and needs a large increase in its revenue by subscriptions of 2s. 6d., 5s., or upwards. For fuller information, send a postcard to:
