Dr. H.B.W. Morgan,
TRANSPORT HOUSE
Dear Dr. Morgan,
I enclose no. 2 of our paper "People & Freedom". We hope now to continue quarterly, but are finding it an uphill fight. Yet the need for an expression of Catholic democratic opinion is such a crying one.
We therefore venture to ask your help and advice, so that we may get our paper known among Catholic Labour people, (though a point on which we feel strongly is that if what we print is worth anything, it should be of interest to anyone, not only Catholics; we want to show that Catholics have a real contribution of their own to bring to present problems). Is there no young enthusiast (or older one) who would undertake the sale and distribution of a number of copies?
Yesterday Laetitia Fairfield, Mary Melville (Lady Melville's daughter), Hugo Yardley and I were selling outside Westminster Cathedral after the University Mass, but the net result was only 45, and the apathy, and sneers provoked by the word "freedom" were something incredible. We feel that we should find much more fertile soil among organised Labour.
If you can help us at all, we shall be most grateful. And in the meantime, why not join us? We have a category of Corresponding Members for those too distinguished to be expected to attend meetings, and they receive a monthly report.
Our Basques have written that they were enchanted at the warmth of their reception in England, but the crisis held up
