Report of Repatriation Committee ; Report on joint meeting of the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief and Basque Children's Committee on 28 October 1937
On the 8th October, 1937 WE, the Undersigned were invited by the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief and The Basque Childrens Committee to advise them upon (1) the question of repatriation of Basque children now in England (2) the applications which had been made for the return of the Children to Spain and (3) to consult all concerned and in particular Father Gabana, The Representative of the Apostolic Delegate in Bilbao. And on the same day we appointed as our Secretary Joseph Vaughan Barrister at Law, 2, Essex Court, Temple, E.C.4.
THEREAFTER on the 10th, 16th and 23rd October 1937 we held meetings at the Court Room of the Incorporated Law Society in Carey Street, Chancery Lane, London, to which all persons interested in the issues before us were invited to attend and in fact at those meetings we were assisted by statements from representatives of The National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief and The Basque Children's Committee - Father Gabana - Senor Uranga and his Counsel Representing the Euzkadi Government and Sir Arnold Wilson M.P., representative of a commission formed in London and known as * The Spanish Childrens Repatriation Committee with the Duke of Wellington as Chairman acting at the request of the de facto Government of Bilbao. We also on the 13th, 19th and 20th October, 1937 assisted by representatives of the above mentioned National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief and the Basque Children's
