MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Since this is an Extraordinary Meeting, called for the purpose of discussing money-raising only, no minutes were circulated.
APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCES: Received from Miss Eleanor Rathbone, M.P.
1. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: A financial statement was passed round showing that the Balance in Hand to date was: £1,790. 0, 0d. Further statements showing receipts for the past week, and also the amount of payments made to centres monthly since June last, were circulated.
Dr Morgan stated that the objects of the Committee at the moment were:
(a) £1,000 per week for Eastern Spain;
(b) Adoption of all the remaining Basque Children.
2. PRESENT EFFORTS APART FROM CONCERTS:
(a) Press Publicity: Reported that appeal letters had been sent out, taking advantage of the moment of crisis. Centres had also been circularised suggesting that they do likewise.
In this connection it was also reported that at the time of the crisis an advertisement was inserted in the "News Chronicle" at a cost of £48, which to date had produced £50 in cash, two adoptions, and enquiries from several other national newspapers. Unfortunately the advertisement appeared the same day as the News Chronicle appeal for the Czechs. Agreed that in general press advertising was not a paying proposition.
