Minutes of Administrative Sub-Committee

              MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE SUB-COMMITTEE of the Basque Children's Committee held at 4, Great Smith Street, on Thursday, October 6th, 1938. at 12 noon.

1. CORRESPONDENCE Reported two offers of assistance 
(a) from Barcelona. Recommended that this be refused on the ground of the difficulty of getting people into the country, but that the applicant be thanked.
(b) from Mr. Bertram Brown, a member of the Society of Friends. Dr. Ellis promised to make enquiries as to his suitability.
2. TIME OF REGULAR WEEKLY MEETINGS. Letters were read from Lady Layton and Dame Janet Campbell regretting that they were unable to attend on Thursdays. After discussion it appeared that the most generally convenient day and time were 5.30 on Tuesday, and it was agreed to ask absent members whether this would be convenient to them.
3. REPORTS. (a). Shoes. Reported that the Co-Operative Union (Scottish Section) had repeated this year their offer to supply all the Basque children with boots or shoes. A suitable letter of thanks had been sent.
(b). Crisis. A short report on activities during the crisis was circulated to members, and is attached hereto.
(c). Midland Joint Committee. Reported offer from Mr. Whiston of the Midland Joint Committee to act as Voluntary Organiser for the purpose of raising funds in the Midland District, which covered the homes of Walsall, Leicester and Birmingham. Agreed he be asked to do this for a period of four weeks provisionally.
(d). Southampton. Reported that the offer of an organiser in the Southampton District had been made, but that Southampton had replied that they had no need of one, since their finances were in a good state.
(e). Scarborough, Reported that Mr. Sykes had examined the Scarborough House and considered the estimate for damages (£100) too high.
