MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: having been circulated were taken as read and signed.
BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES:
(a) Brighton. It was reported that the resignation of Mr. Gamble Jones had been accepted. The Executive Committee had agreed to accept the liability for the £80 debt outstanding. The two Lanz brothers had been transferred to Camberley and the three boys who were working in Mr. Jones' office have ceased work. Dr. Ellis hoped to find other work for then to do. In the meantime, Head Office has accepted responsibility for their maintenance With regard to the position of Warden there are two possibilities -
1. To get, through the Dependents Aid Committee a good man returned from the International Brigade.
2. Mr. Hegarty, the present Warden, is obliged to leave but is willing to stay until a new warden is appointed. He has suggested a Mr. F. Fulford, and it was agreed that his credentials be taken up.
There were conflicting reports about Mrs. Parker, and Mr. Hegarty was of the opinion that it was unnecessary to have an English matron. This matter was left in abeyance.
It was further agreed that a letter should be written to the House Committee regarding the rats in the basement and the fire escape.
(b) Margate. The Secretary reported that although the House Committee was now functioning, the position did not seem to be any better. A Staff Committee had been formed, of which Roberto Alonso was to be Secretary, and there was a likelihood of friction between the two committees.
It was suggested that a letter should be sent to the House Committee, defining its functions and pointing out the necessity for a good treasurer. A letter was read from Roberto Alonso to the Basque Children's Committee asking for confirmation of his appointment as Sub-Warden at Lalcham School at a salary of 30/- per week. Agreed to write confirming his appointment
