MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE BASQUE CHILDREN'S SUB-COMMITTEE HELD ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21st, 1938 AT 5.30 P.M. AT 4 GREAT SMITH STREET, S.W.1.
Mr. Kavanagh (Chair)
Miss Frida Stewart
(a) Bulletin. Dr. Morgan reported that the October Bulletin had brought in a total of £1100, £275 of this being for Basque Children. A December Bulletin was to be sent out as soon as possible.
(b) Collecting Cards. The full results of these are not yet fully known as they have only lately been sent out to committees. Dr. Morgan said that a check was being kept on the cards from Head Office but that Homes would work their own schemes and keep their own records. All cards would be returned to the Office at the end of 3 months. 1000 have already been sent out and a further 2000 ordered. Committees were paying cost price for the cards.
(c) Donation envelopes. These are being used both for Eastern Spain and Basque Children. Over 100,000 envelopes have been ordered of which Basque Committees have taken 8-9000. They are supplied at half cost price to Committees.
(d) Calendars and Christmas Cards. Dr. Morgan said 1000 calendars had been ordered at a cost price of 3¼d. each. They could be sold at 6d. and would be sent round to Homes in the course of a week or so. If they sold well, further orders could be made.
Mr. Kavanagh said that the Generalitat de Catalunya would shortly be receiveing cards from Spain. He offered to let the Committee have a number of these at a nominal price. They would not, of course, be Basque, but it might be that some could be used.
D. Morgan said th Committee had three possibilities for Christmas cards:-
1. Mr. Cooper had ordered 2000 cards designed by Alberdi. of the Bray Court Home. He was prepared to bear any loss incurred in their sale. The Committee would try to sell them for him
2. The Office had received estimates for Christmas cards made from two drawings by Basque children; cost 1½d, to sell at 3d. To be ready in about 10 days' time.
3. The drawing of a ship might also be used in connection with the Foodship Campaign.
