MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: The Minutes of the last Meeting were taken as read and confirmed.
MATTERS ARISING OUT OF THE MINUTES:
(a) Adoptions. The Secretary reported that Dr. Ellis and herself had visited Mr Cooper at the Home Office with a view to obtaining permission to place children in private homes for a holiday period of at least three months. She was asked to send in a formal application in a few weeks' time stating that the Committee felt that for health and psychological reasons it would be advisable to place certain children in private homes. The Committee felt that it would be advisable to place orphans first.
The question of control arose and it was agreed that the visitor in the first place should be a member of the Basque Children's Committee or an English person well-known to the Committee and that after the child had been in the home a short while a bi-lingual visitor should visit the home. It was agreed that the London offers should be further examined.
Mrs. Attenborough stated that in the event of Leicester closing she thought it would be possible to obtain about six offers of hospitality on those lines.
(b) Work for older boys:
Catalunya : Dr Morgan reported that the Catalan Authorities in London had telephoned through to Catalunya and were informed that they were prepared to receive our boys. Also confirmed by Dr. Roca. Mr. Darling will submit full particulars of the offer shortly.
After discussion it was agreed that the Secretary write to the Centres with reference to the different categories of children.
Señor Calvete: It was reported that Señor Calvete hoped to collect £1,000 to set up a hostel for older boys working in London. In this connection Mr. Roberts had suggested the taking over of an unsuccessful boarding house, and to go ahead with the housing of the boys as apart from Señor Calvete's scheme,
