1. APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE: Received from Mr. Tewson,
2. MINUTES OF LIST MEETING: The minutes of the meeting of October 6th having been circulated, were taken as read and confirmed.
3. BUSINESS ARISING ON THE MINUTES:
Formation of Appeal Sub-Committee: The Secretary reported that the need was felt for an appeal committee with members appointed from the Administrative Committee.
It was proposed that the following be asked to serve:
Mr. Tewson
Mr. Brown
Miss Vulliamy
Miss Marian Heatley
Mr. Dow
It was decided that the Appeals Sub-Committee should be empowered to co-opt other members.
4. Letters from Home Office:
(a). Private adoptions: It was reported that Dr. Morgan and Dr. Ellis had an appointment with Mr. Cooper of the Home Office, in order to discuss the possibility of private adoptions from an extended holiday point of view. In this connection the Secretary reported that a circular letter had been sent to a number of selected people who had previously offered to take our children, and that a great number of replies had been received and analysed into various categories. She felt, however, that it would be as well for a member of the Committee to go through the file of letters from people who were willing to take children and mark those which appeared to be most suitable.
After discussion it was felt that if the Home Office gives permission for children to be placed in private families, the greatest care must be exercised in the inspection of the homes and that this could be best done by our own existing organisations throughout the country.
