Dear Mr. Cohen,
KINGSTON BASQUE CHILDREN'S HOME.
I am in receipt of your letter of the 10th instant in regard to the supplying of a typewriter for use at the Kingston Basque Children's Home.
I am afraid, however, that we cannot assist you on the lines which you suggest. We were very anxious some time ago to be able to supply cheap typewriters to our Trades Councils, but after going into the matter carefully we found that the only possible way was to secure cheap rebuilt typewriters at a cost of about £7. 10. 0d, which Trades Councils secured on credit terms.
Nowadays there are usually arrangements in offices with typewriter companies for servicing and exchange of models, and I think the most likely source would be from some individual who might have an old typewriter and would be prepared to loan it to the Home.
I would suggest that you set enquiries in motion in sympathetic quarters and should you be holding a concert it might be worth while making an appeal on these lines to the audience.
