Press communique : 51st meeting of the Chairman's Sub-Committee

INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR THE APPLICATION 0F THE AGREEMENT REGARDING NON-INTERVENTlON IN SPAIN.
Press Communiqué, 18th May 1937.
The fifty-first meeting of the Chairman's Sub-Committee was held at the Foreign Office at 4 p.m to-day.
2. The Sub-Committee resumed their consideration of the proposals made at their previous meeting on behalf of the United Kingdom Government that an appeal should be addressed to the two parties in Spain that they should agree to renounce entirely the use of bombing from the air, and that as had been suggested by the German, Italian, and Portuguese Representatives, conflict in other directions.
The Representatives on the Sub-Committee stated the views of their respective Governments in regard to the foregoing proposals.     From these statements it was clear that every Government recognsied the importance and urgency of the problem of humanising the conflict and was in favour of an appeal being addressed to the two parties in Spain that all possible steps should be taken to this end.
The Sub-Committee agreed that the draft should be prepared of an appeal to be addressed to the two parties in Spain in the light of the discussions at to-day's meeting and that this draft should be considered at the next meeting of the Sub-Committee.
3. The Sub-Committee further considered a report submitted by the Committee of Jurists appointed on 16th March, 1937, in regard to certain questions relating to the use of Spanish capital assets.     The Sub-Committee agreed that before their
