My Dear Mayor,
BASQUE CHILDREN.
Councillor Miss Hassack has intimated that Wednesbury is likely to be willing to help in the work of caring for the Basque children and has  suggested that I might drop you a personal note in regard to this matter.
I can only say that the Committee charged with this responsibility on which the Trades Union Congress is represented would greatly appreciate any assistance that can be rendered either by the collection of funds or by the acceptance of responsibility for a number of children to be cared for locally in a single establishment.
It is essential to understand that for the present there is no intention of permitting individual children being temporarily adopted in private homes. They are to be kept in groups of not less than thirty in order that they may preserve their identity, minimize the feeling of lonliness which is bound to occur in a strange country, and a further point which has to be borne in mind - simplify the question of repatriation, which we hope will not be too far distant. There is also the question of education to be considered in this matter.
