BASQUE CHILDREN.
Very many thanks for your letter of the 27th instant and for the handsome contribution of £35 to our Spanish Fund, our official receipt for which is enclosed.
We will certainly make the best possible use of the money and some of it will be devoted to the Basque Children.
In regard to your request for advice on the question of your Council being responsible for the upkeep of two of the children, there are of course certain administrative difficulties if you have in mind two particular children. On the other hand, I see no reason why you should not make an effort with the object of forwarding to our Fund an amount which would have the effect of maintaining  two children. The money could be sent here and would be used in the best possible way. It is useful for publicity purposes to make your appeal on a definite basis, and to this extent your idea may be helpful. Providing the money was used solely for the Basque children I do not think there would be any breach of faith if your Council did not actually adopt two children.
We have a long period in front of us and it is not only immediate subscriptions which are required. We may have to continue with this work for twelve
