Dear Mr. Cressall,
BASQUE CHILDREN.
I have your letter of the 3rd June and am interested to learn of the rumour which you have heard. I can assure you that there is no truth whatever in the statement that children over fourteen years of age are being placed in employment.
I think the driver may have misunderstood a statement made at the Camp that boys over a certain age were being placed in a special part of the Camp and being trained in camp discipline to perform certain work in keeping the Camp clear of litter.
I do not think it would be advisable to contradict an isolated statement of this character, I would like to thank you for the information and should there be any evidence that this misconception is being spread we will take steps to counteract it.
Yours sincerely,
Assistant Secretary.
