BASQUE CHILDREN.
I am very glad to have your letter of June 5th and to learn that your Council is proposing to take the initiative in securing a local Committee to be responsible for catering for a given number of Basque children. I hope the following points will be of assistance to you.
1. Your Committee is quite right in attempting to make the Committee as representative as possible. Probably the Lord Mayor would undertake to call a meeting of representatives of each political party, every religious denomination, Trade Unions and social and charitable organisations, such as the British Legion and Friendly Societies. Striking a personal note I may say that my wife took the initiative in our locality and out of a district with a population of about 20,000 we have secured the active co-operation of over forty separate organisations.
2. Your Committee would probably agree to take charge of a number of children. A minimum of fifty has been fixed because it is desired that
