BASQUE CHILDREN.
Very many thanks for your letter of the 11th instant in regard to the possibility of your Association assisting with the education of the older children now being evacuated from the camp and sent to various centres.
Your suggestion is very much appreciated, but as you mention, it is rather difficult to say how we can best take advantage of your offer. You will be aware that about two hundred young adults, half of whom are classed as teachers, have come with the children and we hope in this way to be able to continue to some extent with the education of the children along Basque lines. We are endeavouring as far as possible to preserve the Basque identity of the children and this involves education along their usual lines rather than superseding it by an English education.
I think that for the present the best thing I can do is to report your letter to the National Committee for the Care of Basque Children. At the moment our principal concern is securing evacuation from the camp. This is a difficult problem, but when it is nearing completion the
