(a) Brighton and Worthing Homes. Dr. Morgan read a letter from Mrs. Thornycroft stating that a meeting of the Worthing Committee was held on December 5th, when a resolution was passed to the effect that "The Worthing Committee as such cannot undertake any responsibility for the Hove Basque Children's Centre now at Girton House, but individual members of the Committee present at this meeting agree to collaborate with Mr. Omegna in his scheme for the reorganization of the children in a new Home." A new Committee had been formed to take over the reorganization of the home with Mr. C. Barber as Chairman. The new Committee to be known as the East Sussex Committee for Spanish Refugee Children. The financial responsibility for the new centre to rest with the Basque Children's Committee, but the East Sussex Committee would make every effort to make the home self-supporting. Sr. Omegna had written to Dr. Morgan about the problem of finding a suitable house. He reported that the half-yearly rates on Westcombe were £104.2s. and under these circumstances he had approached Mr. Louis Cohen about finding alternative accommodation with a considerably lower rateable value. Meanwhile, he himself was continuing his efforts to find something more suitable. Mr. Miall of the Worthing Committee said that at a second meeting of the new Committee it had been stated that Alderman Douglas could not accept the invitation to serve owing to night work, but that Mr. Trigg would be very willing to do so, and had suggested one or two of his friends who might do useful work. It had been agreed to co-opt them on the Appeals Committee.
