2. MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: The Minutes of the last meeting, having been circulated, were taken as read and signed.
3. MATTERS ARISING ON THE MINUTES:
a) Letters from Birmingham - Dr. Morgan reported that a number of offers of private hospitality had been received through the Birmingham Committee. It was agreed that these should be inquired into further.
Dr. Morgan said an application had also been received from Mr. Lock, who wished to take a girl of 16 into his home. After some discussion, it was decided that Mr. Lock's application be forwarded to the Birmingham Committee with a letter to the effect that as far as the Central Committee could judge of the matter, Mr. Lock's home seemed a suitable one, but that the Central Committee preferred to leave the final decision to the Birmingham Committee.
Mrs. Attenborough gave a report on her interview with Alderman Crump, Lord Mayor of Birmingham. Her impression was that Alderman Crump was a most competent person and that he was genuinely concerned for the welfare and happiness of the children. He had been down to Elford several times and was very disturbed at the indiscipline and disorder prevailing there. He was determined that matters should be improved. Mrs. Morgan, who was to go into hospital, was to be replaced by a relative. Alderman Crump had said that the Srtas. were a liability rather than otherwise, and it was his opinion that an English staff would be more successful.
In reply to Mrs. Attenborough's question whether a change of Auxiliars would be helpful, Alderman Crump replied that this would not solve the problem. He asked that Rosa San Jose be removed and that Srta. Palomera and her family be repatriated. The Birmingham Committee had not allowed Martin Palomera to take the offer of a training in fruit farming because the boy would have been to far away from the home and this would be undesirable.
