As the business of the National Joint Committee occupied most of the time available at the joint meeting, it was impossible to complete the agenda of the Basque Children's Committee. The following items were, however, considered.
LETTER FROM FOREIGN OFFICE
Mr. Wilfrid Roberts read a letter from Mr. Butler of the Foreign Office asking that a full list of the Basque children still being supported in the United Kingdom be given to the Spanish Ambassador at his request. The Home Office was reluctant to depart from its standing rule never to disclose to third parties the names or other particulars of foreigners living in this country, and it was felt that in this particular case there were good reasons for making an exception, as the Basque children were not in exactly the same position as adult political refugees, and their repatriation, now that the civil war was over, was desirable. The Foreign Office would like to find some means of acceding to the Spanish Ambassador's request, and therefore wished to know whether the National Joint Committee would be willing to furnish this list. Any action would be greatly appreciated by the Foreign Office who also felt that the contact which would be made with the Spanish Embassy would be of great help to the National Joint Committee in their task of
