Very many thanks for your letter of the 22nd instant. I am very glad to have your news as to the efforts which are being made by branches associated with your Joint Committee to assist in the great humanitarian work which is being undertaken to care for the Basque children.
I note that you have suggested that the branches should forward their contributions direct to this address and that we should notify you each month of the amounts received. I should like to make a suggestion in order to relieve the very great pressure under which we are working. You will appreciate that the work in connection with funds of this description is tremendous and just works in amongst our other functions. It would, therefore, be a great help if it were possible to simplify the procedure which you suggest. Do you think it would be agreeable to the branches concerned for you to act as the Secretary for their fund; for them to pay their collections to you and for you to send them on to us each week or each month?
