Item 5 of the Agenda.
Dear Sir or Madam,
You will recollect that at the last meeting of the Committee it was decided to send representatives to Bilbao for the purpose of investigating the numerous requests which are alleged to have been received from parents in Spain for the repatriation of their children. The matter has since been actively pursued.
It was thought advisable to send two representatives, each accompanied by a secretary-interpreter. After prolonged negotiations Dr. Norman White and Dame Janet Campbell have expressed their willingness to go to Bilbao on our behalf. Should the Committee agree to this it is hoped that they will leave London on the 22nd, which would give them an opportunity to meet the Committee on the 20th.
As it seems desirable to avoid undue delay, we are anxious to start negotiations without waiting for the Committee on the 20th. If therefore you do not agree with the proposed names, would you kindly reply at once?
The representatives have been seen by certain of the officers, and those members of the Committee who have been in close touch with the matter feel that we have been very fortunate in securing such excellent representatives. Dr. White has a great reputation, and the fact that he has not been intimately connected with our work should guarantee his impartiality.
Yours truly,
WILFRID ROBERTS,
Hon. Secretary.
