Dear Walter,
As already announced in a note to the International Department of the T.U.C. regarding the position of Spanish workers in Great Britain,I have much pleasure in informing you,officially,that the Spanish Trade Union Group was constituted at a meeting held on the 22nd January, 1942.
This Spanish Group is established exactly on the same lines and with the same standing orders as the other foreign trade union groups in Great Britain. It will also indicate in its title that it is affiliated to the International Federation of Trade Unions and recognised by the British Trades Union Congress.
The number of affiliates already on the first day amounts to seventeen, and we hope very soon to be able to raise the membership to nearly a hundred as there are a number of Spanish seamen employed on British merchantmen.Most of these Spanish seamen were previously on the lists of the International Solidarity Fund as trade unionists, so that it can reasonably be expected that they will answer the call to join again the Spanish Trade Union Group.
