Letter from General Union of Spanish Workers, dated June 30,1943.

The purpose of this letter, signed for the Executive by the President, Tomas, and the Secretary Rossell, is to appeal to the British movement to adopt a firm attitude against the present renewal of diplomatic moves to restore the Bourbon monarchy in Spain.
After retracing in outline the course of political changes in Spain from the institution of the Republic in 1931 to its fall in the Civil War, the letter goes on to refer to current Press reports in serious quarters that London and Washington are disposed to back Franco in his scheme to restore the Bourbon claimant don Juan.
It is pointed out that British Labour, being so strongly represented in the Government here, would have a direct responsibility for any moves made by the British Government in this direction: that it should know that the Spanish people are resolutely anti-royalist  and would declare, if free to choose, for a return of the Republic; and that the scheme is in fact the work of two individuals only, namely, Franco and the pretender don Juan himself.
In conclusion the writers appeal to the British movement to prevent the realisation of " a fresh iniquity " against democracy by declaring strongly against these monarchist intrigues.
