GENERAL WORKERS' UNION OF SPAIN

On April 29th the Delegation in Great Britain of the Union General de Trabajadores (General Workers' Union) is organising a meeting in support of the struggle which the Spanish workers have carried on since 1936, when Spanish fascism, assisting the designs of Hitler and Mussolini, rose up against the Spanish people.
The heroic struggle of the Spanish workers is scarcely known abroad. Nevertheless, in spite of Franco's implacable terror, in spite of imprisonments and shootings, this struggle-whose assistance to the United Nations is not fully appreciated- grows greater every day.
We want to manifest our solidarity with the struggle of our comrades in Spain and help them, and we have chosen a date near May 1st., which has the great tradition for the Spanish working class. We also want well known British trade unionists, and those from other countries, who were always in the vanguard in defence of the Spanish Republican cause, to be able to take part this year and testify their sympathy towards the Spanish workers.
That is why it will be very valuable to us if you would send your adherence to the meeting of the Delegation of the U.G.T. which will take place on the 29th April at the Hogar Espanol (Spanish Republican House) 22, Inverness Terrace, W.2.
The old members of the UGT, the trade union organisation which had more than a million members in Spain and which so faithfully fulfilled its obligations under the I.F.T.U., will be very stimulated by this international demonstration. The U.G.T. delegations in Latin America will also hold meetings similar to that which we intend to hold in London, and leaders of the Latin American Confederation of Workers will take part.
