TRADE UNION GROUP OF SPANISH WORKERS IN GREAT BRITAIN
London, July 3rd, 1944.

To the National Council of Labour, Transport House, Smith Square, S.W.I.

Dear Comrades,
We have seen in the Daily Herald the notice of the resolution adopted at your meeting of June 28th, according to which, at this time when the armies of liberation are closing in from the East, West and South, for the destruction of the German military machine, you send fraternal greetings to your friends in Spain.
It is true that we who follow closely the policy of your joint political, trade union and co-operative movement did not need the assurance given in your resolution that the British Labour Movement, comprising these three sections, is keeping alive the principles of solidarity and comradeship with the Spanish Labour and Republican Movement.     But we assure you that your declaration of sympathy towards Republican Spain has fortified the hopes of many who do not follow these matters so closely as we do, or who, as a result of propaganda, have harboured the fear that the British Political, Trade Union and Co-operative Movement might associate itself with the contents of a Speech made for a specific occasion drove many Spaniards to a state of discouragement and pessimism.
