Dear Sir Walter, 
Will you please refer to your letter No. WMC/HBK/JVD/69 of the 16th of November about the case of Mr. J.G.Navas who was interned in Uganda.     I have looked into the matter at your request and the following are the facts of the case.
After the trial at Haifa, to which you refer, Mr. Navas was kept in detention in Palestine because it was not possible to return him to Spain as he is a Republican and completely hostile to the Franco Government. His case was examined by the Advisory Committee in Palestine on the 16th October, 1941 and the High Commissioner agreed to his release, though he made this conditional upon his being able to find employment or obtain admission into one of the fighting services. He was unsuccessful in both and accordingly, when it became necessary in the critical period of 1942 to transfer the aliens in detention or internment to a less vulnerable area than Palestine, Navas along with others was sent
