PROPOSED CO-ORDINATING COMMITTEE OF ORGANISATIONS ENGAGED IN SPANISH RELIEF
Tel; Hampstead 0806 75, Flask Walk
Dear Sir, (or Madam),
At a meeting of organisations concerned in Spanish relief at Friends House at 4 p.m. on Monday, 21st December 1936, the following resolution was unanimously agreed:-
"That this meeting requests all the representatives of organisations dealing with relief in Spain to obtain not later than Wednesday, 23rd December, their committees' willingness to work under a co-ordinating committee as proposed in the memorandum discussed at the meeting and enclosed herewith, it being understood that the work of the co-ordinating committee itself will be actuated by the motive of relieving the distressed and not by political motives, and that the relief of the civil population of Madrid should be an early objective."
It was felt that the urgency of the need was so great that this special request should be sent out immediately so that a further meeting may take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, 23rd December, at Friends House. If favourable replies are received on that day, a statement will be issued to the press informing the public of the formation of this co-ordinating committee and issuing a Christmas appeal. This appeal should not be so phrased as to prejudice any future and larger appeal, but should merely bring the question before the public at Christmas time.
If it is not possible for your organisation to arrive at a definite conclusion in so short a time, an indication of your probable attitude would be greatly appreciated.
(On behalf of the six Members of Parliament who visited Madrid.)
