Dear Walter,
I wonder whether it would be possible for the T.U.C. to intervene in the two following urgent cases which have been brought to our attention by our Spanish comrades in France and U.S.A. This is the English translation of their statements:
(1 ) MANUEL MARQUEZ SANCHEZ.
"On behalf of the Executive Committee of our U.G.T. in France Comrade Pascual Tomas informs us that they have received a letter telling them that Comrade Manuel Marquez Sanchez, who was, for a long time, Treasurer of the National Federation of Agricultural Workers (Federation Nacional de Trabajadores de la Tierra) and who had been in hiding in Madrid, had been arrested and will probably be shot.
"Our comrades ask us to take immediate action in order to save the life of one of our good comrades. We personally know Com. Marquez, we know his activities during the war in Spain, and we also know that Franco and the Falange can bring no accusations against him except the fact that he has always been an active member of the Socialist Party and of the U.G.T. and that he has been enthusiastic
