Rt. Hon. Ernest Bevin, M.P.,
Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Office,
Downing Street, S.W.l.
Dear Mr. Bevin,
Mr Manuel Marquez Sanchez
We have received a comnunication from the International Federation of Trade Unions consequent upon an approach to them by the Union Generale de Trabajadores of Spain intimating that information has come to hand to the effect that Manuel Marquez Sanchez, the former Treasurer of the National Federation of Agricultural Workers of Spain, and who has been in hiding in Madrid, has now been arrested and is likely to be shot.
The communication continues "Our comrades ask us to take immediately action in order to save the life of one of our good comrades. We personally know Com.Marquez, we know his activities during the war in Spain, and we also know that Franco and the Falange can bring no accusations against him except the fact that he has always been an active member of the Socialist Party and of the U.G.T. and that he has been enthusiastic in his defence of the Republic".
