Spanish Medical Aid C'tee
Dear Mr. McGhee,
I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 8th inst., with reference to the meeting mentioned in the attached circular enclosed in your letter to me.
I note that this meeting is being organised by the Kingston and Thames Spanish United Front Committee and that a collection is to be made on behalf of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee.
This is, of course, as you know, an extremely difficult matter, as the Spanish Medical Aid Committee naturally will be prepared to accept subscriptions for the specific purposes of the work undertaken by the Spanish Medical Aid Committee from any source from which it comes.  At the same time, however, I think I can legitimately express my personal view, in that I would prefer such meetings and such collections to be made at meetings or demonstrations organised by the legitimate democratic organisations affilited to the Labour Party and the Trade Union Movement.
I understand from you that a meeting is going to be held under the auspices of the Labour Party for your District on the 22nd January next, and whilst this meeting is being held at Kingston, I think it rather unfortunate that the two meetings, one under recognised affiliated democratic organisations and the other by an ad hoc , so-called United Front Committee, should be arranged so near as probably to affect one another from the point of view of the collections to be made for the work of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee.
Personally, I deprecate very much the exploitation of the Spanish situation by these ad hoc committees being formed in local districts under various high sound
