Dear Miss Church,
I read your letter to the Spanish Medical Aid Committee at its meeting last night as requested. I am writing officially on behalf of the Committee to express its regret at your resignation and its sorrow at hearing of your illness, whilst at the same time offering you its felicitations on your prospective marriage, and wishing you all future happiness and pleasure in your married life. In the circumstances the Committee quite understand your desire to be relieved of your duties as soon as possible, and apart from the misfortune of your illness the Committee would gladly have acceded to your request to leave at once. The Committee asked me to say that they would be glad to grant you a fortnight's leave with pay — to date from your letter — and hope that you will accept their decision as a token of their good regard. Your work has been appreciated, as well as your keenness and interest, and your absence will be felt. We wish you a speedy return to good health after the rest and quietude you so badly needed and all good Luck in the future.
If I may be permitted to add a personal note, I would like to say that before the receipt of your letters I had written to the Secretary, mentioning my dislike of the last paragraph of his Report in the minutes of 22nd September 1937, and saying that I would propose their substitution at the Meeting. I submitted another form of words — impersonal and descriptive. At last night's meeting my proposal was accepted. The Minutes are to be withdrawn, and new
