Re Spanish Medical Aid Relief.
I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 23rd inst., and I note the contents thereof.
I do not know who your informant is who gave you information about the Spanish Medical Aid Committee and any sum of money which you say the Committee agreed to send to the Maison des Blesses, and I hope you will not mind if I say that I cannot see why you should enquire in this way as to what the action of the Trustees of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee is likely to be.
If you have any special information as to the Maison des Blesses at the present time, and whether it is functioning at all or whether it is in a position to do any work or whether it is in a position to undertake work, such as, for example, the supply of artificial limbs to Spanish refugees, I will be obliged if you will be so kind as to let me have the information, because from enquiries which the present Trustees of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee and I individually on their behalf have made, it seems that the Maison des Blesses is not at the moment, having regard to the conditions in France, in a position to undertake any work of  this character, and indeed my information is that it is in the course of liquidation.
I have  been in touch with authoritative representatives of the organised working-class movement in France, and am hoping that information from them will enable us, perhaps with their help, to do something in the way of supplying artificial limbs to authenicated cases of Spanish refugees.
I hope you will pardon this enquiry to you and if it is irregular please accept my apologies.
