re Grant from Spanish Medical Aid Trustees.
As you will see I have taken a little time to reply to your letter of the 14th ultimo, with regard to the work of the fitting out of those who are wounded or disabled in the Spanish Civil War and who need artificial limbs and the grant to you from the Spanish Medical Aid Trustees for that  purpose.
We had a meeting of the Trustees last Saturday, and I am very pleased to tell you that as a result of the consideration of your letter we decided to accept the terms you offer with the correction you made, and thought that your gesture of sharing in the expenses during the period of refitment, that is, the expenses incurred in the period and lodging of the patients in Bordeaux as distinct from the fitting of the artificial limbs, made the scheme still more acceptable to us, and was evidence of our hearty co-operation.
The Trustees then decided to increase the grant from £250 to £500 at once, and to ask you to proceed with the work. We may later be able to make a further grant of £250 or perhaps a little more.
As regards the invitation to see the work in Bordeaux the Trustees thought it might be well to postpone their going over until the work was actually in progress, so that the whole scheme could be seen working.
As regards the possibilities of the Trustees going over, I was instructed to ask you whether it would be possible, if they came over by car, for them to obtain through your influence the necessary petrol to enable them to travel on disembarkation from the Channel boat through Paris and on to Bordeaux, so as to see the work, and for their return.
