Dear Miss Adam,
We are all hoping that the situation in Spain may make it passible for the Spanish refugees here and in France to return soon to their own Country and that the end of our responsibility, as the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief, is at least in sight.
With your help we have been able to carry on our work without interruption during these past years - caring for refugee Basque children, some of them almost from infancy - combating the serious effects of past privations, educating and training them and, in due time, helping them to fit in to useful occupations.
Only with your help shall we be able to see the job through.
Some of the youngest children are still wholly in our care. Others who have started work cannot yet earn enough to be fully self-supporting. And now there are new problems to be met. Some of our young Spaniards who were fighting with the Allied forces have now been released from prisoner of war camps and, whilst eligible for certain official assistance, they still turn to our Committee for help with their personal problems. To them, as in fact to the majority of the adult refugees who have passed through our hands, the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief constitutes their only real anchorage here.
