SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE.
Minutes of the Meeting held at 24, New Oxford St. W.C.1. May 25th. 1938.
Present. Dr. H.B. Morgan in the Chair.
Prof. J.R. Marrack, Dr. H. Joules, Dr. S.W. Jeger, Mrs. L. Manning, Mr. A. Peacock, Mrs. I. Brown, Lady Hastings, Dr. J.A. Gillison, Lord Faringdon, Dr. J. Wright, Miss R. Davson, Mr. G. Jeger.
1. Minutes of Meetings held 18th. May and 20th. May were confirmed and signed.
2. Matters Arising (ex May 20th.)
a) Mr. Holst in Valencia had agreed to act for us there. The sick girls ( Miss Clarke and Nurse Phelps ) were being sent home on Thursday with Nurse de Culpeper.
b) Arrangements were being made for the 2 cars to leave on Saturday, to be driven by Mr. Davson (who would return immediately) and Mr. Percy Cohen.
The position of the latter was discussed. He will be returning to take out the new Auto-chir, and might be required to remain with it, but if there is no definite job in Spain for him, he must not remain there.
c) Through the medium of Dr. Wright, a nurse had been obtained who was willing to go to Barcelona and nurse Carmen for a few weeks. Nurse Hartland had left by air that morning.
3. Special Correspondence.
a) Dr. Saxton thanked the Committee for the laboratory material sent him, and asked for a few more items.
This was referred to the Personnel and Technical Sub-Committee.
b) From Mr. Poole and Mrs. Bates, in Barcelona, asking urgently for 4 nurses, a doctor to relieve Dr. Saxton for 2 months, a pathologist, and more money.
It was agreed that we advertise for nurses, and endeavour to obtain a doctor and a pathologist, and the Organising Secretary's action in sending a further £50 through Paris was confirmed.
The purchase of 100 plates and spoons, and coffee for Miss Smyth's hospital, and dental material for the Auto-chir was sanctioned.
The Personnel & Technical Sub-Committee to consider the other items.
c) Various members of the Committee had received a letter from Mr. Joe Coomes relating to his work as lorry-driver in France and Spain. After discussion, it was agreed that he be told that the Committee regard the matter as settled, but that if he still wished to submit a detailed report and see the appropriate Sub-Committee, he may do so, and may be allowed to consult the relevant files. The Organising Secretary to write to him accordingly.
