              SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE. 
Minutes of meeting held at 24, New Oxford St. W.C.1.  June 15th. 1938.
Present. Dr. H.B. Morgan in the Chair.

1. Minutes of Meeting held June 1st. were confirmed and signed.
2. Matters Arising.
a) Re Valencia. The Org. Sec. reported that Miss Sybil Clarke accompanied by Nurse de Culpeper, had arrived by air on Thursday, June 2nd.   He had met them and conveyed Miss Clarke to Hammersmith L.C.C. Hospital, where arrangements for her care had been made through Drs. Morgan and Jeger. Nurses Phelps and Dickinson had arrived by air on Wednesday. June 6th.    Miss Phelps had also been admitted to Hammersmith Hospital.
In each case they had travelled from Valencia to Marseilles on a British Destroyer, where they had received excellent treatment.
The Chairman read a letter from Dr. Janet Vaughan alleging that inadequate arrangements had been made for the reception of the sick girls.
It was agreed he reply that she had been misinformed.
b) The promised letter from Mr. Rust re Hunt and Johnstone had not yet arrived.
c) The goods sanctioned have all been purchased and will be leaving on Saturday, June 18th. on the Auto-Chir provided by the Litho Artists and a reconditioned Ford Ambulance presented to us by a group of Finsbury friends, and for which experienced drivers are available.
The Litho Artists asked whether one of their members ( Mr. Lay ) could accompany their vehicle as driver, and this was agreed to.    He has been tested and approved.
d) Books are arriving in embarrassing quantities in response to Miss Wilkinson's appeal. They are being rapidly sorted, packed and sent out.
e) The Dependant's Aid Committee proposed sending to Paris a representative who could look after the wounded men, and asked whether we could authorise him to draw on our funds for his expenses and fares.
After hearing a statement by Mrs. Brown,  it was agreed that the present situation regarding repatriation does not warrant the maintenance of a permanent representative in France, but that we would consider sending over an "escort" in special cases, which would be considered on their merits. It was decided that information of the cost of allowances and expenses (£49.17.0.) for the 7 men repatriated last week be "received".
f) Miss Monica Milward had left for Spain on Saturday, June 11th. with Nurse Ada Hodson.  Sanction from her brother had been received.
g) No appeal for typewriters had been issued yet, but through Mrs. Brown, two had been given us, together with a cheque for £50.
